課程概述

The course is primarily designed for students applying to graduate schools to gain a foundation for academic writing, including outlining, paraphrasing, summarizing, editing, and peer-reviewing skills. Topics to be covered include features of academic writing, paragraph/essay development, grammar functionality, and essential vocabulary in academic English. Through in-class writing tasks, students will apply their knowledge to writing different study-related genres: CV, Resume, Personal Statement, SOP, and cover letters. The course also aims to equip students with teamwork and oral presentation skills in different academic contexts.  

課程目標
By the end of the course, students should be able to
1. Evaluate and analyze a variety of texts for academic purposes
2. Demonstrate familiarity with the vocabulary and grammar used in academic writing
3. Construct an effective academic profile or a professional bio
4. Develop teamwork and oral presentation skills needed for their academic careers 
課程要求
1. No more than three excused absences are permitted.
2. Active participation in class discussions is required.
3. No make-up exams will be allowed.
4. Late assignments will not be accepted.
5. No plagiarism. A grade of “0” may be earned for plagiarism or other forms of dishonesty.
